Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official stated the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
