The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Response

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire content from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a early access event. Initially, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, stakes, and obstacles that shift every round. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or go big, put it on the line, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."

The game has not yet received an official release date or supported systems, but fans can expect more updates as development advances.
